Denise Desmond serves as the firm’s appellate counsel. She graduated from the University of Florida’s College of Law in 1990. She was named to Who’s Who among America’s Law Students and received the book award in legal drafting. Denise is a member of both the Florida and the California bars. After law school, Ms. Desmond served as an Assistant Public Defender before obtaining a clerkship at the Fourth District Court of Appeals with the Honorable George Hersey and after Judge Hersey’s death for the Honorable Robert Gross. After her clerkship ended, she spent the next two years as a Senior Assistant Attorney General doing exclusively criminal appellate work. While at the Attorney General’s Office she earned an AV rating from Martindale Hubble, the highest rating for legal ability and ethics, which she still maintains. Denise then moved to the arena of civil appeals as on-staff appellate counsel and litigator for Weissman, Yaffa and Desmond.
She joined Baker & Zimmerman in 2004, as their on-staff civil appellate counsel and litigator. In 2004 Denise was also named one of America’s Most Outstanding Lawyers. In addition to her appellate and litigation experience, Denise has also been certified as a family court mediator by the Florida Supreme Court, and offers family mediation services to clients of the firm.
